Robert Habeck
Vice-Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany (2021-2025)
Robert Habeck has been a defining force in German politics in recent years, known for his steadfast commitment to liberal democracy, climate protection, and a stronger Europe. A skilled negotiator, he has built majorities by balancing competing interests, shaping policy both in Germany and across Europe.
With a decade of ministerial experience, Habeck is an expert in energy and trade policy, armaments and security, and digital transformation. As Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, he played a decisive role in steering Germany through the energy crisis triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. His leadership not only ensured energy security but also accelerated the modernization of Germany’s economy, securing vital investments in green technology and infrastructure. Under his direction, Alliance 90/The Greens evolved into a progressive, liberal, and centrist force, leading the party back into government in 2021—its first return since Joschka Fischer in 2005.
